GARLIC, GINGER, TURMERIC - OH, MY!
When cooking, many people have their “Holy Trinity.” Three aromatics or spices used in a dish to create a base that provides a depth of flavor. In French and Italian cooking, the three must-haves are onion, celery, and carrots. While Indian cooking typically has a base of onion, garlic, and hot chilies. If you are looking to cook a Cajun meal, you will want to grab white onion, green bell pepper, and celery.
As I researched the Holy Trinity for different cuisines, I thought about what my wellness Holy Trinity would be. I landed on ginger, turmeric, and garlic. Sometimes together or separately, but I definitely eat them every day for their great benefits. According to The Well, “Garlic, ginger and turmeric have a long history of both boosting the immune system and reducing inflammation.”I may have even heard somewhere that people who incorporate these three items in their diets live longer…but don’t quote me on that.
Being intentional about what you feed yourself is such a large part of wellness, right along with soul care and self-care. How you feed yourself can contribute to the flow of your day. If it makes your body feel good, your day will flow a lot better. This is why I have been intentional about including ginger, turmeric, and garlic in my everyday diet. Here are a few examples of how I include these powerhouse items in everyday life:
EVERYDAY USE
So, how can you positively manifest things in your life? I am here to breakdown manifesting into 5 steps to help you get what you want:
Fresh Ginger Tea: Most mornings, I start my day with fresh ginger tea with a little cranberry juice (no sugar added) and lime juice. I boil 1 -2 inches of thinly sliced ginger in a pot of boiling water. I typically boil the ginger in about 2 cups of water. I let the water boil down to about 1 cup water. Then, pour in a cup with cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime. It’s a nice refreshing way to start the day. I drink this so often, I’ve started making it in large batches.
Breakfast Potatoes: If you know me, you know my love for potatoes. While I will gladly eat potatoes any time of day, breakfast potatoes are my favorite. It’s a good way to add a few veggies and pepper to the first meal of the day. Whenever I make potatoes, I always add a couple of tablespoons of garlic and a dash of turmeric. It’s easy to incorporate, and the flavor payoff will be well worth it.
Fried Rice: Leftover rice? Fry it up with oil, soy sauce, garlic, and ginger to create a delicious base for fried rice. Adding ginger to your fried rice base will add amazing flavor to your rice; it also amps up the nutritional benefits of the dish. Feel free to add in your veggies and few more spices. I typically like to add edamame, carrots, onions, and a little chili oil for flavor.
