WE TRIED: OUAI

Today we are bringing the “We Tried” series over to the self-care side with Ouai. Since the beginning of the holiday season, Mama Paige and I have been talking about self-care during the holiday season – not just making space to give to others, but also making space to give to (and take care of) yourself. So, I decided to give a couple of body and hair care products a try.

Why Ouai?

Ouai is a brand that prides itself on giving customers what they want instead of telling them what they need as well as encouraging its customers to say yes to follow their Ouai (way) of life. My favorite part is the smell. If you know me, then you know this is BIG thing for me. I don’t like overpowering scent – just clean and light. Quai does a great job of balancing the two.

Not only do the products smell great and feel luxe, but they also align with those looking to include more plant-based products into their lives—like me! While not all of their products are vegan, many are, including their body scrub, hair oil and leave-in conditioner. They are also cruelty-free and strive to be more sustainable. Cruelty-free products

There are many cruelty-free items to choose from. A few of them have become staples in my beauty cabinet:

  • Scalp & Body Scrub. I love a good combo product that actually works! This scalp and body scrub is it! Hair wash days can be a little drawn out and exhausting. I love using this on my hair wash days add a little more pampering to the process. On the site, Ouai says “This blend of sugar and coconut oil cuts thru to cleanse your hair & body, while calming the crazy.” I could not have said it better myself!

  • Leave-In Conditioner X Byredo. This smells amazing and soaks right into my hair. I pair this with the hair oil for a light moisture boost to my hair in the mornings. While this item is cruelty-free, it is not listed as vegan-friendly. While I am transitioning many of my self-care items to plant-based alternatives, not everything I buy is vegan-friendly.

  • Hair Oil. It’s no secret that oils help to seal in the moisture, smooth frizz and maybe even help with split ends. This hair oil does all of this without weighing the hair down and has the added bonus of a nice layering scent. I use this to help seal in the leave-in conditioner as well as a finishing oil to help smooth flyaways.

Ranging from $26 - $38, these products would be a small investment – but one I do not regret. It is hard to find fragranced hair and body care that actually does what it is supposed to do and doesn’t have an overpowering smell. For me, it is worth the investment.
